James J. Tamulski

James J. Tamulski has been practicing law since 1974. Following his graduation from Hastings College of the Law, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard at its headquarters in Washington, D.C., assisting the Department of Justice in litigating vessel collisions, groundings, environmental pollution, wrongful deaths and aviation disasters. During this period he received a Citation of Merit from President Ford. He resigned his commission as Lieutenant Commander in 1976 and returned to San Francisco to join the maritime department at Graham & James. He was a partner there, and later at Kaye, Rose & Partners LLP, until 2001, when he left that firm to form Emard, Danoff, Port & Tamulski, LLP. His practice has included matters involving passengers, employment matters, seamen and longshoremen, personal injury and wrongful death, salvage, contracts, such as charter parties and bills of lading, passenger tickets and terminal agreements, cargo loss or damage, oil and air pollution and a variety of marine insurance, and customs issues. He also advises clients on import and export issues. Mr. Tamulski has extensive trial experience. He is admitted in both California and the District of Columbia, and has practiced before The U.S. Supreme Court, The Court of International Trade and The U.S. Court of Military Appeals. He has served on a number of committees of the Maritime Law Association of the United States and has spoken at the Pacific Admiralty Seminar, the Export Pacific Conference, and numerous times before other maritime and trade groups. He is an "AV" rated attorney who has been appointed as Early Neutral Evaluator, Maritime Law, by the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California. He is Past President of the Board of Directors of the Associates of the National Maritime Museum Library. He obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of California and his Juris Doctor degree from Hastings College of Law.
